DMB related parties including Korea Broadcasting Commission, Ministry of Information and Communications and Broadcasting companies are working hard to export them to abroad.
DMB is the strategic item which possibly will compete fiercely in mobile broadcasting market with MediaFLO of Qualcom in USA and European DVB-H
KBS•MBC•SBS•EBS, four major terrestrial broadcasting companies and TU Media, a satellite DMB company will have DMB demonstrations in Brazil and Mexico which is the biggest market in South America.
Korea Broadcasting Commission's visiting to Central-South America has a meaning of strengthening mutual exchanges and cooperation to expanding Korean Wave and investigating the advance of DMB.
Particularly they plan to demonstrate the terrestrial DMB and satellite DMB in Brasilia in 27 and San Paulo in 28 to investigate to advance into the market.
One concerned with Korea Broadcasting Commissions said "Korea Broadcasting Commissions will conclude a MOU on mutual exchanges of the contents with related people from the Ministry of Communication, which is a broadcasting policy agency, ANATEL (policy agency) and the Ministry of Culture on one hand and will exhibit and demonstrate our DMB to make an opportunity to advance into the market."
Particularly Brazil is noticed as they are interested in satellite DMB as the mobile broadcasting technology. Following that, they will demonstrate terrestrial and satellite DMB service in Mexico in August 1 to promote the globalization of DMB.
They attracted public attention in 'MIPTV/MILIA 2005', a broadcasting exhibition which was held in Cannes, France in last April. Related people of our country which was invited as a main guest demonstrated DMB which makes possible to broadcast with CD level of sound quality and VOD level of video and data at 'Mobile Broadcasting' conference, so they had excellent reactions.
Last January, Korea Broadcasting Commissions concluded a MOU according to Korean-Singapore FTA agreement, strengthening the cooperation between countries also has been active in PR of DMB. Demonstrated terrestrial and satellite DMB service attracted big interests from the people concerned in the field.
One concerned with Korea Broadcasting Commissions explained "Demonstrated terrestrial and satellite DMB service then attracted big interests from the people concerned in the field and we understand they are now examining actively to introduce the DMB.
The Ministry of Information and Communications is also very busy to export DMB to abroad. In the industry, people make a joke to call Minister JIN of the Ministry of Information and Communications as 'sales manager of DMB'.
Ministry of Information and Communications held a seminar and a demonstration of terrestrial DMB at the meeting in which high-ranking officials from Mexican Government, TV and radio broadcasting companies and specialist of broadcasting specialists gathered invited by CIRT of Mexico in last June 16.
One who is in charge from the Ministry of Information and Communications explained "There were a lot of questions and big interests from related people with broadcasting and communications on the seminar of technology and policy of DMB system using of the technology of Fixtree and Ontime Tech and in which researchers of ETRI and domestic manufacturers presented.
The Ministry of Information and Communications has had demonstrations in Germany, UK, France, Turkey, Brazile and Peru since the end of last year and has a plan to make demonstrations of DMB to make further success.
Every country's interests in satellite DMB, of which main broadcasting began in last May, are getting bigger and bigger.
According to TU Media, which is the satellite DMB company, they have had met the people concerned with 56 governments and enterprises of 18 countries to discuss about the cooperation on the satellite DMB business from last year.
Chairman of 'Ecostar', an American satellite broadcasting company, Federal Communications Committee, a group of Malaysia Ministers, DMB promotion group of Guangdongsheng, China have been to Korea to discuss about satellite DMB business.
Incase of France, they have expressed big interests last year, visiting 13 times containing Broadcasting Committee, TDF which is broadcasting transmitting company, Chairman and his party of Boigus Group and TF1 which is the biggest broadcasting company.
Satellite DMB is evaluated to enter into the market stably, securing almost 100,000 subscribers in two months since main broadcasting was started in May and expected to attract more attentions.
Mr. KIM Byuksoo, a Managing Director of Overseas Market Development Division in TU Media said "The interest of local government of China and satellite DMB company is big. In Europe, the interests are getting bigger, requesting definite discussion."
For this, the Ministry of Information and Communications, Korea Broadcasting Commissions, terminal manufacturers and DMB companies decided to make 'DMB Industry Promotion Institute' in Korea Radio Industry Promotion Association to make a bridgehead for advancing to overseas market.
One concerned with the Ministry of Information and Communications said "Korea Radio Promotion Association" is preparing for an association and it will be completed around September."
But somebody points out the cooperation between related agencies and strategic approaches are necessary to link these efforts to advance into overseas market to specific export results.
Mr. BACK Jongho, the chief of Broadcasting and Communication Conversion Center of Electronic Parts Institute emphasized "Our DMB is new type of service based on European DAB network so that a strategy attacking the Southeast area where two services are urgent; conversion of analogue audio into digital and mobile broadcasting."
He added "In case of terrestrial DMB which attracts big attention from the world, early start of domestic service is the key point of export abroad."
In addition to that, one concerned with the industry pointed out "Joint demonstration of the Ministry of Information and Communications and Korea Broadcasting Commissions can create bigger synergy effect than the separate individual demonstration of two parties over the world for achieving its own result.
