Government setup the goals of the production of IT industry as 380 trillion Won comparing with 240 trillion Won of last year by introducing new services in IT industry including portable internet (WiBro), home network and DMB, also goal of exporting amount as 110 billion US$ comparing with 74.7 billion US$ of last year.
Ministry of Information and Communications announced 'A plan of strengthening the competitiveness of information and communication industry' at the economic policy adjustment meeting held in the integrated government building in Kwacheon in 22nd.
The government decided to prepare an activation base by introducing five new services including mobile internet, MDB, home network, telematiks (automobile multimedia service) and RFID. And it will activate three existing services, W-CDMA (3rd generation mobile communication), internet phone and terrestrial DMB and will confront actively with the conversion of communication and broadcasting like IP-TV (internet TV) and DMB.
For mobile internet, the development of regular service system and terminal will be finalized by coming December and will be regular service in June next year.
Satellite DMB will secure 300,000 subscribers by the end of this year, terrestrial DMB will be started from in this year and local broadcasting service will begin second half of next year. Government will promote the adoption of international standard of DMB technology and support to enter into abroad market.
For home network service, there will be a service compatibility test between model business consortiums in this year, in case of telematiks service model city of telematiks will be constructed in Jejoo Island, and six trial services will be offered including tourist∙transportation, Jejoo culture, leisure living, electronic comers, entertainment and emergency rescue. For RFID service, public sector including Supply Administration and Ministry of National Defense will proceed to do RFID business after preparing the promotion plan by the end of this year.
